Buying an apartment in the Canaries

The Canary Islands are formed of seven volcanic islands and are part of Macronesia, a collection of archipelagos in the Atlantic, such as Cape Verde. Because of the uniqueness of their scenery, the UNESCO recognises Lanzarote, El Hierro, and La Palma as Biosphere Reserves, as well as other national parks on other Canary Islands. This is why it is a luxury to own a property in the Canaries. There is a great variety of relief on the islands, from abrupt cliffs to crystal beaches. From Mount Teide on the island of Tenerife you can appreciate the great contrasts in the archipelago. Indeed, you can be bathing in Atlantic one day and make the most of the snow the next on the highest peak in Spain. The two most inhabited islands are Tenerife and Gran Canaria with a population of 850,000 each. It is on these islands that you will find the most tourists, and if you would rather live surrounded by nature, you might prefer an apartment in El Hierro, the smallest of the seven islands of the Canaries. The climate is subtropical oceanic which means that the weather is warm, the sun shines more than 3,000 hours per year and the average temperature is 21ºC (70ºF). If you are interested in living in the Canaries, the first step you should take is deciding which town you want to live in. In Tenerife, we suggest Adeje, Arona, Candelaria, Granadilla de Abona, San Cristóbal de la Laguna, and the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In Gran Canaria, there is Arucas, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde, and Santa Lucía de Tirajana. There are many other towns on the smaller islands.
