Properties in Girona

The province of Gerona is located in the north of Spain, northeast of Barcelona, on the border separating Spain from France and Andorra. It is part of the autonomous community of Catalonia and therefore the language spoken there is Catalan. There are many reasons why Girona is such a great place to buy a property. Perhaps the most important one is the proximity of the mountains to the sea. The temperature varies greatly in the region. Mountainous areas such as Puigcerdá, which is located in Pyrenees, have a cooler climate than towns on the Mediterranean coast, for instance Castelló D’ampuries, Castell-Platja d’Aro, Lloret de Mar, and Mont – Ras. The coast is known as the Costa Brava and stretches across 214km. The Costa Brava is celebrated for the fact that a great emphasis is placed on nature conservation, as 30% of it is protected. This is why there are so many natural parks to visit, such as Cabo de Creus and the Medas Islands, seven islets which are famous for scuba diving. Girona city, the capital of the province, is situated only a few kilometres away from the sea, and if you purchase a house in the centre, you will be able to enjoy the sea as well as the hustle and bustle of city life. As well as offering many different kinds of leisure activities and hotels, there are many famous architectural sights to discover, such as the Cases de l’Onyar, which are beautiful houses overlooking the river Onyar, Girona Cathedral, the Call Jueu, which is the area that Jewish people used to live in until the 15th century, and the Arab baths.
